Terms of service
Effective 2 August 2026
These are the terms for using Happy Herd. They're short because the product is simple. By creating a family or joining one, you agree to them.
The service
Happy Herd provides a shared family board โ chores, calendar, rewards, meals and lists โ synced across your household's devices. The app is free to download and a substantial part of it is free to use permanently. Happy Herd is currently offered in the United States only. You must be 18 or older to create a family or manage a subscription.
The free plan
The free plan is not a trial and does not expire. It includes the chore board, the full calendar with calendar subscriptions and Google sync, unlimited lists, voice add, the wall display, all themes, carpool asks, event comment threads, family history and one โฆ Magic read every seven days. It carries no advertising.
Happy Herd Family Plan
The Happy Herd Family Plan is an auto-renewing subscription that unlocks reward goals and allowance banking, meal planning and the recipe box, unlimited โฆ Magic Add, and the Smart Assistant. One subscription covers your whole family โ up to ten member profiles across every device joined to it.
- Price: $4.99 per month. There is no annual plan.
- Free trial: 7 days free. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the free trial ends, it becomes a paid subscription at $4.99 per month and renews every month until you cancel. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited if you buy the subscription before the trial ends.
- Renewal: the subscription renews automatically at the end of each monthly period unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the period ends. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours of the end of the current period.
- Where it's billed: through the App Store. Payment is charged to your Apple Account on confirmation of purchase.
- Managing and cancelling: in your App Store account settings. We cannot cancel or refund a subscription for you, because we never handle the payment.
- Refunds: handled under the App Store's own policy.
- Price changes: if the price changes, you'll be told before it takes effect, and you can cancel before renewing.
If a subscription lapses, your family drops back to the free plan. The board, calendar, lists, wall display and history keep working. Paid features become unavailable โ nothing is deleted, and it's all there if you subscribe again.
Your account and your family
One email account creates and owns a family. You're responsible for that account, for the parent PIN, and for who you share your family join code with โ anyone holding the code can join your board. A parent can rotate the code at any time from Settings.
Content your family creates belongs to your family. You give us only the permission needed to store it, sync it between your devices, and deliver the features you use.
Children
Children in Happy Herd are profiles created and controlled by a parent, not accounts. If you add a child profile, you confirm that you're that child's parent or legal guardian and that you're responsible for what's entered about them. There are no public or social features and nothing a child does is visible outside your household. See the privacy policy for how this works in practice.
Acceptable use
Use Happy Herd for what it's for: organising a household. Don't attempt to access other families' data, don't disrupt or probe the service, don't use it to harass anyone โ including through the features that send text messages โ and don't use it for anything unlawful. Features that message people outside your family carry rate limits and opt-out handling; attempting to work around them is a misuse of the service. We may suspend accounts that do any of this.
Availability and liability
We work to keep Happy Herd fast and available, and we provide it "as is" without warranties. Happy Herd is an organisational tool: don't rely on it as the only record of anything medical, legal or safety-critical. Third-party calendars, messaging and AI services can fail in ways outside our control.
To the extent the law allows, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits rights that your local law says can't be limited.
Ending things
You can stop using Happy Herd and delete your family at any time, from inside the app โ the paths are listed in the privacy policy. Deleting your family does not cancel a subscription bought through the App Store; cancel that in your App Store account settings. If we ever discontinue the service, we'll give reasonable notice and time to export your data.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change in any meaningful way, the effective date above changes with it, and continued use means acceptance of the current version.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.
